Miss Invisible

306 pages

By: Laura Jensen Walker

Summary:  Freddie Heinz wasn't what you would call a stand out. She spent most of her time hiding behind the cakes she made as a professional baker. Freddie often felt passed over and invisible, as she thought, because of her larger size. Then Freddie meets Deborah, a new friend who helps her out of her shell and shows a reluctant Freddie how to live confidently. Before she knows it, Freddie is the object of several men's attention. Add in a puppy, a strict and uncooperative boss, and, of course, a blog, and the self-dubbed "Miss Invisible" is in for a wild ride.

Reaction:  I think there are times when everyone feels lonely and, yes, invisible, so I think that everyone could relate to this book, no matter their size. I enjoyed it and thought it was a bit of fresh air-not too overbearing on the romance. I rated it at a 9 because I did think that some of the friendships were a bit unrealistic, in a hard to explain way. But, of course, I love the fact that the main character is a blogger! ;)

Rating:  9/10

Roses For Mama

By: Janette Oke

222 pages
Roses for Mama (Women of the West)
Summary: After her and her family moved out west, because of her mother's health, Angela's life changed drastically. Both of her parents died, and since then her brother and her have been raising her three younger siblings for the past three years. Now seventeen, Angela struggles to raise her younger siblings, and raising the way her mother would want her. As she grows, and wants to live her own life, Angela feels trapped. As she starts to have feelings for someone, Angela wonders if this is really what God has in store for her.

My Reaction: I loved this book! Probably one of my favorites by this author. While some of Oke's books tend not to have a significant amount of romance, this one has quite a bit of clean romance. As usual Oke's writing and plot was good. It showed how the decisions we make don't only affect ourselves, but others around us too. Like I said a favorite by Oke. Loved it!

My Rating: 9/10

Serenity's Desire

by: Kay D. Rizzo (Serenity Inn series book #1)
256 pages
Serenity's Desire
Summary: Serenity Powell's life had always been perfect-well pretty much. A good home, loving parents, and money in the bank.  But that was before her mother died, and ever since then her life has changed drastically.

Now some widow wants to marry her father, she hears strange things in her house at night, and she knows her father is keeping secrets from her. Serenity looks to her mother's journals to find out more about her mother, and finds God's promise that he will never leave or forsake her. But if her promises that, why is Serenity's life so out of control?

When things are as bad as they could get, the Powell house burns down. Now her father wants Caleb Cunard-a family friend-to take Serenity as far away as possible from her home, and the only life she's known. As her life goes from perfect to disaster, Serenity finds out more about her family, friends, and her mother's God, in the years before the Civil War.

My Reaction: This book was pretty good. I liked that Serenity had problems in all aspects of her life, like many of us do. One thing that disappointed me, was that there wasn't enough romance. Another was Serenity, she seemed really spoiled and selfish, but she did seem a little different at the end. For the most part it was a good story about life, love, and God. Book 2: Serenity's Quest, coming soon.

My Rating: 7.5/10

Becca By The Book

By: Laura Jensen Walker
Book 3 in the Getaway Girls Series
307 pages

Summary:  Becca Danielsis not about to grow up. At twenty-five, she loves taking risks without a thought to the consequences. That's exactly how she ended up skydiving and breaking her leg on the way down. Now, in a cast and feeling very grumpy, Becca is offended when her friends tease her on her inability to hold a relationship.
One thing leads to the next, and a bet is made. Becca is sure that she can win. What she has to do? Keep a relationship with the next guy who asks her out.
However, when that turns out to be Ben, who is definitely not what she expected, Becca is doubting that she really can make it.

Reaction:  This book was good.I think a lot of people would want to be as free-spirited as Becca, and she's a great leading character. Although I'm not sure this would be a book I would read again, the series on a whole is very good.

Rating: 7/10

What A Girl Wants

What a Girl Wants: Romance for Good™ promo (Paperback) ~ Kristin... Cover Art
By Kristin Billerbeck
352 pages

Summary: Ashley Stockingdale is a patent lawyer in Silicon Valley. While she has great taste in things like designer bags and shoes, she seems to have hit a new low on the dating scene. Ashley's been single for a while now and struggles to get through to the nerdy engineer types Silicon Valley was made up of.
After several very awkward outings with her church's singles group, Ashley is convinced that while some are only 'single for a season', she was 'single for a reason', and maybe there was no hope for her at all.
Then she meets and starts dating Kevin, the ex of a girl she works with. Things are going great....then she finds out that Kevin isn't a Christian, and discovers that maybe they weren't so alike after all. And, just maybe, what she'd been looking for had been right in front of her the whole time?

Reaction: I think Kristin Billerbeck is a great author. Her books aren't trashy, and she has a good sense of humor. You can't help but feel sorry for Ashley, and possibly laugh at some of her experiences along the way. It can be a little slow at some parts, but overall a great book.

Rating: 9/10
